Course Overview: The SCA Roasting Professional course is the highest level of certification within the Specialty Coffee Association’s Roasting curriculum. Designed for experienced roasters, this advanced program dives deep into the physics, chemistry, and sensory impact of every variable in the roasting process.

Led by Firedancer Coffee’s authorized SCA educators, this intensive course combines detailed theory with guided practice, analytical exercises, and cupping evaluation. You’ll explore how environmental conditions, roast design, and green-coffee chemistry influence final cup quality — developing the expertise required to lead quality programs or manage production with precision.

 

What You’ll Learn

  • Design, execute, and evaluate complex roast profiles for specific flavor objectives

  • Apply advanced concepts of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and energy management

  • Evaluate and interpret roast data for consistency and optimization
    Identify, prevent, and correct roast defects and variability

  • Lead sensory analysis and quality control programs within a roasting operation

  • Understand green-coffee chemistry and its influence on roast planning and product development

 

Who Should Take This Class

  • Roasters who have completed the SCA Roasting Intermediate course (or equivalent experience)

  • Production and head roasters are responsible for quality control and training

  • Educators, consultants, and entrepreneurs seeking formal professional accreditation in coffee roasting
     

Course Format

  • Certification Level: Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) — Professional

  • Delivery: In-person, instructor-led at Firedancer Coffee Consultants’ training facility

  • Duration: 3 days (24+ hours instruction, roasting, and cupping)

  • Includes: Course materials, guided cuppings, practice roasts, and SCA written & practical exams

  • Certificate: Issued by the Specialty Coffee Association upon successful completion and examination

  • Payment & Cancellation, if applicable:

    Once registration and tuition have been received for a course, we consider this to be a firm commitment for attendance. Last-minute participant substitutions are difficult to arrange, although we understand emergencies may arise that can affect attendance at programs offered by Firedancer.

     We have established the following policy in case of course cancellation:

    • If cancellation is made more than 15 days before the program start date, 100% of the tuition, less a 10% cancellation fee, will be refunded, or 100% of the tuition will be transferable to another program and/or date.

    • If cancellation is made within less than 15 days before the program date, the entire tuition is non-refundable; however, you may transfer to a future date.

    Firedancer reserves the right to cancel or reschedule events as necessary.  In such a case, this will occur two weeks before the start of the event.  Tuition may be refunded in full or transferred to a future seminar or course. In no event shall Firedancer Coffee Consultants be liable for any cancellation or change penalties assessed by an airline or hotel as a result of course date changes or cancellations.

  • Tuition & Certificate Fees:

    INCLUDED WITH TUITION: SCA certificate feed, student handbook, class activity materials, certificate of completion, snacks, and lunch (for classes longer than 6 hours).  

    NOT INCLUDED WITH TUITION:  Airfare, transportation, lodging, or other personal expenses.
